Household Trash and Recycling
Revised 7-1-11; 10-28-14

All residents/businesses must contract with a Town-permitted refuse hauler to dispose of garbage and household trash/recycling.  The Town of East Hampton does not handle recycling of glass, metal, plastics, newspapers, magazines.  Each resident must recycle curbside through his or her locally licensed hauler (same as above).  Please call hauler for additional instructions.

The Transfer Station site on Bear Swamp Road is open to residents only one day per week (Saturday only) between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. to accept metal, bulky waste, tires, homeowner-generated (non-commercial) demolition material, clean brush and leaves.  Please check schedule during winter months (November through March) for Saturday closures.  A sticker must be affixed to the vehicle entering, and may be purchased annually for $10 each at the Transfer Station or the Public Works Department office.

Used motor oil and car batteries for recycling will be accepted by the attendant at the Transfer Station.  No commercial operations.  Limit is four (4) gallons per visit.  Oil must be brought in one- (1) gallon plastic containers with secure tops.  Depositor must sign a statement that the product is used motor oil with no contaminants.  No antifreeze is accepted (must be brought to Household Hazardous Waste Site).

The Town will continue to ban such items prohibited by the State Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP), such as hazardous waste and containers, radioactive materials and chemical storage drums.

Stumps, commercial demolition materials and scrap construction materials must be hauled to a DEEP-licensed demolition site.  All transportation and tipping fees are the responsibility of the party requiring the service.
